The Gnessin Russian Academy of Music became the founder and publisher of the journal «Issues of Ethnomusicology» - the only specialized publication in our country dedicated to the problems of ethnomusicological science.
The implementation of such a project marked the onset of a new stage in Russian ethnomusicology, a notable feature of which was the cooperation of ethnomusicologists from different scientific schools and directions. Today we feel a clear interest in each other and are aware of our ability to dialogue and work together. We hope that the new journal will strengthen these centripetal, creative trends in the development of Russian musical folkloristics, providing a platform for authors of different views and scientific directions engaged in the study of a wide variety of musical cultures in Russia and those located beyond its borders.
The pages of the journal publish articles on a wide range of topical problems of modern ethnomusicology, discuss issues of the theory and practice of ethnomusicology, analysis of musical and folklore texts, the geography of traditional musical culture, and the historiography of our science. Great importance is given to the publication of archival materials and new field recordings of musical and ethnographic expeditions, and to the discussion of problems of editorial and field folklore studies. Regular columns include reviews of published scientific literature and audio publications, reviews, and reports on scientific life in Russia and abroad.
We invite to cooperation not only well-known specialists, but also young scientists - graduate students, senior students, as well as teachers, local historians, and archive staff.
