Requirements for article formatting

The peer-reviewed scientific journal “Problems of Ethnomusicology” accepts previously unpublished materials prepared in accordance with the following requirements.

  1. The volume of the article is up to one author's page (40,000 printed characters with spaces), including examples, illustrations, notes and a list of references. Articles of larger length are accepted in special cases by decision of the editorial board.
  2. Materials must be typed in Word (doc or rtf format), font - Times New Roman; font size 12 or 14. Paragraph: first line indented 1.25 cm; At the end of the paragraph, use the “Enter” key. There is no indentation between paragraphs.
  3. Quotation marks are used in a herringbone pattern; In quotes, the internal quotation marks are “paws.”
  4. Font markings in the text must be italicized.
  5. Links in the text are page-by-page with continuous numbering.
  6. The authors themselves take care of the illustrative support of their articles. Photographic materials are sent as separate files in tif format with a resolution of at least 300 dpi in black and white (when scanning, the “all shades of gray” mode is used); captions for illustrations - in a separate file.
  7. Note examples are typed in the Finale music editor (width no more than 14 cm), sent as separate files in tif format with a resolution of at least 300 dpi with the name “Example 1”, etc. Comments on the examples are sent in a list in a separate file.
  8. The article must have a References list, compiled in alphabetical order. The reference in the text is formatted in square brackets indicating the serial number of the source and page (for example, [1, 12]). The bibliographic description of sources must comply with GOST 7.05—2008. If necessary, a list of abbreviated names is attached to the article.
  9. The article must be accompanied by: the title of the article, a brief abstract (5–12 lines), a list of keywords (no more than 10) in Russian and English; indication of the surname, name and patronymic of the author/authors (in full) in Russian and English; information about the author/authors in Russian: academic degree, academic title, main place of work/study (full official name of the organization, city), position, email address; contact phone number (for editorial use only).

Articles prepared without taking into account the above rules will not be accepted for publication.

In accordance with Russian legislation, the authors transfer non-exclusive rights to publish manuscripts to the founder and publisher of the journal (Gnessin Russian Academy of Music). The authors guarantee that the articles for which they transfer the rights to publish are their original works and that these articles have not been officially transferred to anyone for reproduction or other use. Authors are responsible for the content of their articles and for the fact of their publication.

The main criteria for selecting articles are their compliance with the profile of the journal, the relevance and validity of scientific research proposed for publication, as well as compliance with scientific ethics.

All materials submitted for publication in the journal are subject to review, which is carried out in two forms: external and internal. External review is mandatory for materials submitted by graduate students or degree candidates. Such materials are accompanied by a review-recommendation from a scientific supervisor or a specialist in the relevant scientific field (Doctor of Science or Candidate of Sciences), certified by the signature and seal of the organization (in paper and electronic form). The review-recommendation indicates the reviewer's full name, academic degree, academic title, place of work (full official name of the organization, city), position, contact phone number, email address.

Articles are also reviewed by members of the editorial board or external scientific experts. If the review is negative, the article is not published, and the author is sent a reasoned refusal. The editors reserve the right, if necessary, to shorten articles, edit them and send them to the authors for revision.

Publication fees are not charged to authors of manuscripts. Articles are published on a royalty-free basis.
