Technical requirements for the design of manuscripts

  1. The text of the article is typed on a computer in the MS Word editor (A4 format; margins: top: 2 cm, bottom: 2 cm, left: 3 cm, right: 1.5 cm; one and a half spacing , 14 point font, paragraph indent 1.25, Times New Roman, justified). In the text of the article, pages are marked and the letter E is printed.
  2. The volume of the article is allowed in the following formats: 10 pages, 12.5 and 15 pages, including musical examples, illustrations, diagrams, applications, notes, bibliography (in Russian and English), annotations and keywords ( in Russian and English).
  3. Structure of the article. The format must comply with GOST R 7.0.7-2021 (“Articles in magazines and collections”)

    1) Home page:

    - title of the article

    - first name, patronymic, last name of the author

    - full name of the institution, city, country

    - email address, ORCID registration number

    2) Summary. Volume from 150 to 250 words.

    3) Key words: 5–10 words

    4) Main text of the article.

    5) Gratitude, appreciation. Such sections are common in the practice of foreign publishing houses. The section is usually located between the main text of the article and the bibliography. It should not be placed on the home page as a footnote to the title of the article or in any other way. It lists the persons who provided any assistance to the author(s) in conducting the research, preparing the work (supervisors, editors, sponsors, grant founders, etc.).

    6) List of sources and References.

    The article must be accompanied (required by the Higher Attestation Commission of the Russian Federation) with a List of References (5 to 15 titles), with the obligatory inclusion of literature published in the last 5 years.

    The same list of references in the Roman (Latin) alphabet is given in a separate block - References. All names repeat the Russian-language Bibliography. If the list contains foreign sources (Roman alphabet), they are completely repeated in References.

    Each bibliographic reference is given in a transliterated version (translation of letters into Latin). On the website http://translit.ru/ you can use a free program to transliterate Russian text into Latin (you must sel ect the BSI option) and quickly get an image of all letter correspondences.

    7) Signature of the author(s).At the end of the article the initials, surname of the author, position(s), academic degree(s) are given.

Accompanying materials for the article

  1. A summary is required for all articles. It should reflect the content of the article and describe the main conclusions.


    The summary should contain a brief repetition of the structure of the article, including introduction, goals and objectives, methods, results, conclusion. The text of the summary is published independently, in isolation fr om the main text and, therefore, the content of the article should be understandable without referring to the publication itself. The subject, theme, purpose of the work are indicated only if they are not clear from the title of the article.


    The title of the article and the information contained in it should not be repeated in the text of the author’s summary.

  2. Information about author - a short text, no more than 100 words.


    Indicate the following information:


    - place and position related to the author’s research interests;

    - brief information about education, scientific degree (if You are a graduate student or postgraduate student, only the name of your university and topic are given);

    - the author’s achievements over the last 5 years (publications, lectures, conferences, concert performances, etc.)


    Abstract, keywords , information about the author is given in Russian and English.


    The editors reserve the right, if necessary, to modify the annotation and information about the author or order a new version of the text from a staff translator.

  3. Profile details of the author(s) ), which are not published, but are necessary for dialogue with the editors, are attached as a separate file to the article:


    - last name, first name, patronymic in full;

    - full name of place of work;

    - work or home address ;

    - telephone.

  4. Footnotes are additional, not the main text of the article, and the author must regulate their number. They must be numbered sequentially throughout the article. The footnote number is indicated in the text, and their list is placed separately at the end of the article in the form of Notes.
  5. References to literature are given within the text in square brackets (for example: [12, p. 25]).
  6. Citation in the text.


    It is necessary to make sure that all references given in the text are present in the bibliography (and vice versa).


    All text selections within citations are specified in square brackets: [author's italics . – ....] or [italics mine. – ....].


    The permissible volume of citations (correct borrowing) is no more than 30% of the total volume of the article. Reviews and other articles that, for objective reasons, require a larger number of citations are considered by the editors on an individual basis.


    Articles, the content of which is more than 30% consistent with other scientific materials of the author (dissertation, abstract, monograph, previous publications in magazines and collections), are not accepted for publication.

  7. Graphic images.


    Diagrams, tables, photographs, drawings are numbered and given with names (signatures) or headings.


    Illustrations and musical examples are made using computer graphics or notography. The typed musical text is converted into drawing format with a resolution of 600 dpi. The sheet music example must be accompanied by information arranged in the following order: on the left - continuous numbering (Example No. 1, etc.), on the right - the author with initials, the name of the work, its parts, etc.

Registration of manuscripts for the International Department

The magazine publishes articles in English, as well as in the original language of the author with editorial translation for the Russian-speaking reader.

Article design

The article is typed on a computer using the MS Word editor: font Times New Roman, font size 14, line spacing one and a half; page margins: top, bottom, left and right – 2.5 cm; Automatic hyphenation, “width” alignment. The length of the article is allowed in two formats: 10 pages or 12.5 pages in the specified parameters, including musical examples, illustrations, diagrams, appendices, notes, bibliography, annotations and keywords.

At the beginning of the article, the surname and first name of the author, as well as the name of the institution that he represents, are indicated.

References are placed after the main text (endnotes) in the form of Notes.

All text selections within quotes are specified in square brackets: [author’s italics. – ....] or [italics mine. – ....]. References to literature are given within the text in square brackets (for example: [12, p. 25]).

Diagrams, tables, photographs, drawingsare numbered and given with names (signatures) or headings.

Illustrations, musical examplesare performed using computer graphics or notography. The typed musical text is converted into drawing format with a resolution of 600 dpi. Annotationsare compiled by the authors in English. Volume from 100 to 250 words.

The title of the article and the information contained in it should not be repeated in the text of the author's summary.

Key words: 5–10 words.

Information about the author – a short text, no more than 100 words in English. Below is a sample from Music Theory Pedagogy:

Thomas Christensen is currently Assistant Professor of Music Theory at the University of Pennsylvania. His degrees in theory are from Boston University, University of Michigan, and Ph.D. from Yale University. He recently completed a year of study in Germany on a grant researching the reception of Rameau’s theory among early 18th-century German music theorists. He has presented numerous papers at regional and national meetings and will have forthcoming articles published in the Journal of Music Theory and Music Theory Spectrum.

The authors of the articles bear full responsibility for the accuracy and reliability of the information, quotations, references and bibliography. Articles are pre-selected based on submitted abstracts.

Checklist for preparing an article for submission

  1. As part of the article submission process, authors must check that their article meets all of the following points; articles may be returned to the authors if they do not meet these requirements.
  2. The work must not have been previously published in other publishing houses (with the exception of publication in the form of an abstract or partially published lecture, dissertation abstract or electronic preprint).
  3. The work is not considered for parallel publication in another publishing house.
  4. The decision to publish was approved by all authors (in case of co-authorship).
  5. Article may not be published elsewhere in the same form in Russian, English or other languages, including in electronic form, without the written consent of the copyright holder (publisher).

  6. The text meets the stylistic and bibliographic requirements described in the website section " Guide for Authors".

Rights to the results of intellectual activity and means of individualization equivalent to them are protected in accordance with Part IV of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation. Authorship, the name of the author, the name of the performer, the inviolability of the work and the result of the performance are protected by the rules of Part IV of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation of the author or performer, regardless of whether legal protection was provided to such results of intellectual activity at the time of their creation.

Copyright regulates civil relations regarding the use of works of science, literature and art. Such relationships arise as a result of the creation of a work by the author. The author has copyright in relation to the work.

The author has certain rights to reuse the work (see: Ethical aspects in terms of double (redundant) and secondary publications).

Licenses

All copyrights to articles belong to their authors. The author transfers the rights to use the article to the Editorial Board.

PDF versions of scientific articles of the PMN journal are published using the license Attribution Non- Commercial No Derivatives cc by-nc-nd, which allows the downloading of works and their distribution, provided that the author is indicated. The works may not be modified in any way or used for commercial purposes.

Criteria for authorship, co-authorship

The Author means all persons (co-authors) who took part in the research and creation of the manuscript and are responsible for its content. Responsibility for the completeness of the representation of the composition of the team of authors and coordination with them of all changes made to the test of the manuscript based on the results of its review and editing lies with the person (author) who submitted the manuscript to the editor.

  1. Authorship is based on following criteria:

    - The author made a significant contribution to the research development of the concept and structure of the study, collected data, analyzed and interpreted the data.

    - The author wrote the draft text of the article and carefully substantively edited it.

    - The author approved the final version of the article before submission.

    - The author is responsible for the integrity of all parts of the manuscript.

  2. The authors of the article guarantee that the submitted manuscript is an original work.
  3. Scientific reviews on a particular issue must be objective, present material in a wide range and at the same time take into account the point of view of the review author.
  4. Authorship of scientific publications must accurately reflect the individual's contributions to the research work, with information about the authors.
  5. Authors should not mislead readers by publishing thanks to people who were not actually involved in the work or provided support. Anyone else who contributed to the work but is not the author can be listed in the Acknowledgments section, which should indicate what they did.
  6. Authors must provide a description of what each of them contributed to the publication.
  7. The order of authorship must be the result of a joint decision of the co-authors. Authors should be prepared to explain why they list authors in this order.
  8. Responsibility for the correct determination of authorship lies entirely with the authors themselves, acting in accordance with the rules adopted by their institution.
  9. Researchers should ensure that only those individuals who meet the criteria for authorship (i.e., have made significant contributions to the work) are considered authors, and that deserving researchers are not excluded from the list of authors.
