Migration card (for citizens of countries with non-visa regime)

Foreign citizens entering Russia within non-visa regime (citizens of Armenia, Georgia, Qasaqstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tadjikistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine and Moldova) must prolong permission to stay in Russia to complete their studies*

Local offices of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation are responsible for prolonging permitted temporary stay, making decisions prolonging or reducing period of a foreign student’s temporary stay in the Russian Federation.

Documents required for prolonging migration card must be submitted not later than 30 days before your current migration card expires.

The procedure of prolonging permitted temporary stay involves stamping the flip side of your migration card and writing the period of your permitted temporary stay.

Important! Every time you receive a new migration card it has to be prolonged.

1. Prepare documents:
- Copy of your international passport (pages with personal data, all the pages with leave and entry stamps);
- Original migration card and its copy;
- Copy of your fingerprint registration (migrant’s green card);
- Copy of current results of completing medical examination (medical report, medical certificate and HIV certificate);
- Copy of your current registration;
- Bank receipt confirming transaction for fee for prolongation of your stay;

2. Bring printed copies of documents and your original migration card to the Department of Visa and Migration Support of Foreign Students

Important: The Department of Visa and Migration Support of Foreign Students has the right to refuse to take your documents for prolongation of migration card in the following cases:
- Foreign student didn’t bring all the required documents;
- Foreign student was added to the List of Controlled Persons;
- Foreign student didn’t manage to submit documents on time (later than 30 days before your current migration card expires)

3. Receive an answer from the Department of Visa and Migration Support of Foreign Students that your migration card is ready
Important: period of making a decision about prolongation of your permitted temporary visit takes up to 10 days since the date of submitting documents

1. Prepare documents:
- Copy of your international passport (pages with personal data, all the pages with leave and entry stamps);
- Original migration card and its copy;
- Copy of your fingerprint registration (migrant’s green card);
- Copy of current results of completing medical examination (medical report, medical certificate and HIV certificate);
- Copy of your current registration;

2. Ask the Department of Visa and Migration Support of Foreign Students for an application for prolongation of your permitted temporary stay via email indekanat@gnesin-academy.ru 

You will receive an answer that your application is ready at your corporate email within 2 workdays

Important: a request for an application for prolongation of your permitted temporary stay which was sent later than 30 days before your current migration card expires will be declined

3. Come to the Department of Migration Issues of local Office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Moscow yourself and submit all the documents required for prolongation of your permitted temporary stay and pay fee for the procedure

Important: depending on an office the number of required documents can vary

4. Receive prolonged migration card

5. Send scanned copy of your migration card to the Department of Visa and Migration Support of Foreign Students via email indekanat@gnesin-academy.ru 

6. Prolong temporary registration

Foreign student must keep track of the period of validation of migration card him/herself!

Important!

In case a foreign student does not manage to prolong the period of permitted temporary stay on time, his/her personal data will be included to the List of Controlled Persons automatically. Expulsion regime will be applied towards those included to the List, their bank accounts and cards will be blocked. Foreign students included to the List must leave Russia until being excluded from the List.


*Since the 1st January 2025 the period of temporary stay of a foreign citizen who came to the Russian Federation within non-visa regime must take no longer than 90 days of a calendar year in total. Exceptions are mentioned in Federal Law «On legal precept of foreign citizens in the Russian Federation» dated 25.07.2002 № 115 ФЗ, or international agreements of the Russian Federation, and cases in which the period of temporary stay is prolonged
