The conference is dedicated to the development of music pedagogy and co-operation between Russia and China in this field.
The Rector of the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music gave lectures on contemporary Russian choral music for Chinese choirmasters and music teachers representing various provinces of the People's Republic of China.
The listeners were introduced to audio and video materials, as well as fragments of scores presenting the work of Russia's leading composers in the field of choral music of the last decade. Alexander Sergeyevich spoke about the experiments conducted by Russian composers in the field of expanding choral timbre, in particular, combining the sound of the choir with the timbres of various instruments. Special attention was paid to the works presented by the Gnesin Ensemble of Contemporary Choral Music ‘Altro coro’ in the current season.
The lecture was followed by master-classes with leading choirmasters from China, who demonstrated their methods of working with children's choirs. The participants received advice from Alexander Ryzhinsky on what approaches to use today when working with both children's and youth amateur and educational choirs.
The conference touched upon the issues of long-term co-operation between the Capital Pedagogical University in Beijing and the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music. Thus, in 2025, teachers from the Academy are scheduled to come to Beijing to conduct masterclasses. These masterclasses will pay special attention to choral art.
I think today is a great time to establish a long-term relationship with China in the field of musical art. Chinese and Russian cultures are among the most ancient, adhering to traditional principles, and their influence in society is very great. Today we have a wide range of issues to solve together, and I hope that this co-operation will be very fruitful for our countries
