She has worked as a music director in a kindergarten, head of the piano department at a music school and at a music college; from 1980 to 2016 she worked at the Moscow State University of Culture and Arts, and since 2016 she has worked at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music.
In 1984 she defended her Candidate’s dissertation on the topic «Developing the musical and aesthetic taste of students of colleges of cultural education», for which she was awarded the degree of Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences.
In 1999 she defended her doctoral dissertation on the topic «The spiritual ideals of the individual: theory, history, contemporary problems of formation» in the fields 24.00.01 «History and Theory of Culture» and 13.00.01 «General Pedagogy».
From 1999 to 2001 she served as Deputy Director of the Research Institute of the Moscow State University of Culture and Arts.
From 2001 to 2013 she was Head of the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology at the Moscow State University of Culture and Arts.
Since 2004 she has been a member of the Union of Writers of Russia.
Since 2005 she has been a corresponding member of the International Academy of Sciences of Teacher Education.
From 2000 to 2016 she chaired the doctoral dissertation council D 210.010.03 in the fields 13.00.02 «Theory and Methodology of Teaching and Upbringing (Music)» and 13.00.08 «Theory and Methodology of Vocational Education».
Under the supervision of L. S. Zorilova more than 30 Candidate’s and Doctoral dissertations have been defended. She regularly serves as an official opponent on dissertation councils throughout Russia.
Since 2015 she has been academic editor of journals on the list of the Higher Attestation Commission: the «Bulletin of the Moscow State University of Culture and Arts» and «Culture and Education».
From 2010 to 2014 she was Director of the Institute of Music of the Moscow State University of Culture and Arts, and after the university was reorganised she headed the Faculty of Musical Art of the Moscow State Institute of Culture until 2016.
In September 2016 she moved to the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music to work in the Department of Pop and Jazz Singing as a Professor.
Since April 2021 she has been Head of the Department of Social and Humanities Disciplines.
L. S. Zorilova has published more than 120 works with a total length of 180 printer’s sheets, including monographs and articles in journals on the list of the Higher Attestation Commission. Three articles in Scopus‑indexed journals have been published in English: «Prospects for the Development of Cultural Studies» (India, 2016), «Historical and Cultural Features of the Formation of Music Management in the Context of the Functioning of Russia’s Spiritual Culture: Genetic, Diachronic and Synchronic Approaches» (Moscow, 2020), «The Spiritual Culture of the “Silver Age” as the Basis of 125 Years of Development of the Gnesin Educational System» (Saint Petersburg, 2020); she is also the author of study programmes and teaching materials.
Under her editorship collections of scholarly articles have been published, including sixteen issues of the collection «Music Pedagogy and Performance» at the Moscow State University of Culture and Arts and three collections devoted to International Research and Practical Conferences: «Pop and Jazz Art: History, Theory, Practice» at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music (2018, 2019, 2022), «Philosophy and Art», and many others.
For her fruitful work she has been awarded a Certificate of Honour from the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. She is an Honoured Worker of Higher Education and holds a badge of distinction, as well as letters of appreciation from the State Duma, the Academy of the Federal Security Service, the Governor of the Moscow Region, and many others.
