Tatiana Abramovna Zelikman is a professor at the Department of Special Piano of the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music.
Professor of the Department of Special Piano, Honored Cultural Worker of the Russian Federation, T. A. Zelikman is one of the most famous teachers not only in Moscow. Her name is well known both in Russia and abroad.
T. A. Zelikman is a graduate of the Gnesins educational institutions (Children’s Seven-Year School, Music College, Institute, postgraduate course), a pupil of Professor Teodor Gutman, an outstanding representative of the Neuhaus school. In 1966 she graduated from the Gnesin State Musical Pedagogical Institute, and in 1970 she completed an assistant traineeship.
On the recommendation of E. F. Gnesina, immediately after graduating from the Institute she was invited to the Gnesins Secondary Special Music School, wh ere for more than half a century (since 1966) she has headed a class of special piano.
Since 1998 she has also been teaching at the Department of Special Piano of the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music, soon becoming one of the leading professors of the department while not leaving her class at the Gnesin Secondary Special Music School.
During her long and fruitful teaching activity Tatiana Abramovna Zelikman has trained more than one generation of outstanding young musicians, many of whom have been repeatedly awarded at the most prestigious international competitions, such as the Van Cliburn Competition in Fort Worth (USA), the Busoni Competition in Bolzano, the Schumann and Cziffra Competitions in Germany, the competitions in Dortmund (Germany), Sydney (Australia), Hamamatsu (Japan), the Chopin Competition in Warsaw, and others.
Many of her pupils have become concert artists, renowned masters of performing art. Among them are K. Lifshits, A. Kobrin, A. Volodin, M. Mordvinov, I. Rudin, K. Shahmarov and others. They perform and teach not only in Russia, but also in many countries of the world, continuing the traditions of the highest professionalism and culture of that piano school which was founded by their teacher.
The most significant events of recent times are the brilliant successes of her student Daniil Trifonov — winner of the Grand Prix of the International Tchaikovsky Competition, first prize of the International Piano Competition of Arthur Rubinstein in Tel Aviv, and first prize of the Chopin Competition in Warsaw. Daniil Trifonov is now one of the brightest and most sought-after representatives of the young generation of contemporary pianists, performing on the most prestigious stages of the world with the best orchestras and conductors. In 2018 he was awarded a Grammy.
Thanks to her wide pedagogical renown, T. A. Zelikman constantly receives invitations to give master classes and musical workshops, as well as to serve on juries of competitions both in our country and abroad — in many countries of the world: Japan, Italy, France, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Israel — this is only a small part of these countries.
Despite her great teaching workload, Tatiana Zelikman does not abandon her performing activities, periodically appearing in concerts, as well as on radio and television. Her CDs include recordings of works by Beethoven, Chopin, Fauré, Mozart and Schumann, and bear witness to her finely honed pianistic craftsmanship and depth of artistic conception. In addition to this, she collaborates with various musical publications and journals as an author of articles and interviews about the performing art of outstanding pianists.
Her exceptional pedagogical and musical experience, combined with her human generosity and constant willingness to help young musicians, have created her unique artistic reputation. Tatiana Abramovna Zelikman has brought up many talented pupils of different ages — from very young children to adults who came to her as already formed pianists.
