Performer (balalaika), teacher.
He was born in 1947.
In 1971 he graduated from the Folk Instrument Faculty of the Gnesin State Musical and Pedagogical Institute (now the Gnesin Academy), where he studied under the outstanding performer and teacher, People’s Artist of the USSR, State Prize laureate, Professor P. I. Necheporenko. Under Necheporenko’s supervision he completed an assistant traineeship in 1976.
In 1968 he became a laureate of the All‑Russian Folk Instrument Performers’ Competition for students of music institutions, and in 1974 a laureate of the All‑Union Festival of Soviet Youth.
In 1977 he was invited to join the Department of Folk Instruments at the Gnesin State Musical and Pedagogical Institute.
In 1979 he won First Prize at the Second All‑Russian Folk Instrument Performers’ Competition in Leningrad (together with Sh. Amirov).
For many years he has appeared in duo with his regular accompanist L. S. Gotlib. As a frequently touring soloist of Mosconcert he has reached a stage of mature artistry, performing for all kinds of audiences – children and adults, pupils of children’s music schools and students of music institutions. He has also given solo performances abroad; in recent years listeners in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, the United States, Ecuador, Italy, France, Germany and many other countries have become acquainted with his art.
