Aleksei U. Vrodlivets

Biography

He was born in 1991 in the city of Kursk into a family of professional musicians.

In 2011 he graduated from the Sviridov Kursk College of Music (class of Honoured Cultural Worker of Russia Yu. A. Vrodlivets); in 2015 he graduated with honours from the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music (Bachelor’s degree, class of Professor A. A. Gorbachev); in 2017 he completed his Master’s degree at the Gnesin Academy (class of Professor A. A. Gorbachev); and in 2019 he completed the Gnesin Academy’s assistantship‑internship with honours (class of Professor A. A. Gorbachev).

During his studies at the Gnesin Academy he became a laureate of all‑Russian and international competitions, including:

  • First Prize at the M. F. Rozhkov International Balalaika Competition (2013);
  • First Prize at the «Union State Cup» International Folk‑Instrument Performers’ Competition (2013, 2014);
  • Diploma winner of the First All‑Russian Music Competition (2013);
  • First Prize at the A. Repnikov International Folk‑Instrument Performers’ Competition (2015);
  • Second Prize at the Second All‑Russian Music Competition (2017).

Since 2012 he has performed and taken part in subscription series at the Moscow International House of Music and on various concert stages as a member of the «Balalaika Trio».

In 2016 he won a position in the prima‑balalaika section of the N. P. Osipov National Academic Folk Orchestra of Russia.

He began his teaching career in 2012, working at the «Nadezhda» music school and Children’s Music School No. 74.

He currently teaches at the Edvard Grieg Children’s Music School.

Since 2019 he has also taught at the Department of Folk Performance Art at the Schnittke Moscow State Institute of Music. Among his students are prize‑winners of international competitions K. Yakovlev, A. Kuznetsov, N. Knyazev, I. Zhuravlev, M. Safiullin and A. Belousov.

He gives masterclasses at the Creative School and within the programmes of the New Names Foundation for gifted children and scholarship holders; for students of children’s music schools, art schools and the Sviridov Kursk College of Music within the «Young Talents and Stars of Russia» festival; and for students of children’s music and art schools within the «MSIM for Children» project.

He has served on the juries of international competitions including:

  • The Fifth International Student Competition for Folk‑Instrument Performers and masterclasses for CIS member states (Gnesin Russian Academy of Music);
  • The Third P. I. Necheporenko International Balalaika and Domra Competition;
  • The Iveta Voronova New Names Charitable Foundation;
  • The Second All‑Russian Folk‑Instrument Performers’ Competition.

Over the course of his concert career he has toured in the USA, Germany, Luxembourg, Finland, China, England, Poland and Portugal, as well as in many Russian cities including Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Veliky Novgorod, Vladimir, Kursk, Belgorod, Voronezh, Tambov, Novosibirsk, Vladivostok, Russky Island, Magadan, Samara, Saratov, Tolyatti, Petrozavodsk, Oryol and Salekhard.

He has collaborated with such Moscow orchestras as:

  • «Russian Philharmonic»;
  • The N. Nekrasov All‑Russia State Television and Radio Company Folk Orchestra;
  • The V. F. Gridin Folk Orchestra;
  • The «Onega» Folk Orchestra;
  • The Song and Dance Ensemble of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation;
  • The China National Orchestra;
  • The «Metelitsa» Folk Orchestra;
  • The «Academy» Folk Orchestra.

He has worked with conductors V. P. Andropov, V. P. Yeliseyev, D. M. Yurovsky, F. Mastrangelo, B. S. Voron, V. A. Pon’kin, S. P. Tararin, N. M. Aldanov, A. V. Shlyachkov, A. A. Markovchin, P. N. Gorbunov and I. M. Tonin.
