Biography

Alexey Nikolaevich Vaker graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 2015 and a Master’s degree in 2017 fr om the Piano Department of the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music in Moscow, wh ere he studied under Professor Tamara Markovna Rusanova, Honored Artist of Russia. 

He is a laureate of numerous national and international competitions, including:

  • the Maria Yudina International Competition (St. Petersburg, 2014) — 1st Prize;
  • the Vera Lotar-Shevchenko International Competition (Yekaterinburg, 2014) — 2nd Prize, which led to an extensive concert tour across France;
  • the 15th Youth Delphic Games of Russia (Tyumen, 2016) — Gold Medal;
  • the Young Classical Virtuosos of Tomorrow international competition (Philadelphia, USA, 2017) — Grand Prix.

He has participated in masterclasses led by Dmitry Bashkirov, Vladimir Mishchuk, and Sergei Dreznin. 

In 2017, he took part in the «River of Talents» masterclass project organized by the St. Petersburg Music House, following which he was selected to perform Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Astrakhan Opera and Ballet Theatre Orchestra. 

In 2018, he was invited to perform at the Festival of Russian Music in Novara, Italy, and in 2019, at the Festival of Russian Art in Cannes, France. 

In 2020, he began teaching at the Department of Special Piano and the Department of Chamber Ensemble at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music in Moscow.

From 2022 to 2023, he served as a faculty member for the Gnesin Academy’s International Summer School, conducting masterclasses.

Between 2023 and 2025, he participated in concerts and masterclasses as part of the International School of Musical Sciences in Erice, Italy, organized by the Conservatorio Santa Cecilia in Rome, the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music, and the Rossotrudnichestvo representative office in Italy.

In 2024, he performed in a concert series at Russian Cultural Centers in Rome, Vienna, Brussels, Berlin, and Grodno. 

In September 2024, he gave a solo recital at the Nanjing University of the Arts and conducted a series of masterclasses at music schools in Nanjing, China.

In 2025, he held masterclasses at the China Conservatory of Music in Beijing, the Harbin Conservatory, Harbin Normal University, Liaoning Normal University in Dalian, and Jiamusi University. He also conducted a series of lectures on the topic «Features of work on Rachmaninov’s piano works on the example of his Piano Concerto No. 2» in the cities of Harbin, Dalian, Jiamusi. 

In November 2025, he spoke in Beijing at a joint conference of the Chinese Conservatory of Music and the Gnesins Russian Academy of Music with a report «The three-stage system of music education in Russia as the basis of the Russian piano school».

He performed on prestigious stages in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Rome, Naples, Berlin, Bonn, Bayreuth, Brussels, Vienna, Paris, Lyon, Philadelphia, Beijing, Harbin and other cities and countries.

He performed with conductors Sergei Durygin, Ilya Gaisin, Evgeny Bushkov, Evgeny Shestakov, Unai Urechcho (Spain).

Since 2017, collaborates with the ensemble of contemporary choral music «Altro coro» under the direction of Alexander Ryzhinsky.

He gave master classes in Russia, Belarus, Italy, China.
