Biography

In 1983 he graduated with honours from the Ippolitov‑Ivanov Music College (class of M. I. Pekarsky). In 1990 he graduated from the Gnesin State Musical and Pedagogical Institute (now the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music, class of V. V. Fedin).

In 1988 he was awarded the title of laureate at the All‑Russian Competition for Brass and Percussion Performers in Leningrad. Since 1991 A. V. Suvorov has taught the percussion class at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music.

His students and graduates include laureates of all‑Russian and international competitions and festivals, as well as members of leading performing ensembles in Russia. A. V. Suvorov regularly serves on the juries of all‑Russian and international competitions for brass and percussion performers, gives masterclasses at various educational institutions in Russia and abroad, and is the author of a number of publications on percussion performance.

Since 1990 A. V. Suvorov has been a soloist of the Russian National Orchestra under Mikhail Pletnev.

Since 2013 he has been principal percussionist of the Russian National Orchestra.

A. V. Suvorov regularly takes part in projects of the Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble, the Musica Viva Moscow Chamber Orchestra under Alexander Rudin, the musicAeterna orchestra under Teodor Currentzis and many others.

Over many years as a soloist of the Russian National Orchestra and as a chamber and solo performer he has collaborated with outstanding instrumental soloists, vocalists and conductors, including Luciano Pavarotti, José Carreras, Montserrat Caballé, Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Anna Netrebko, Martha Argerich, Itzhak Perlman, Sarah Chang, Viktoria Mullova, Vadim Repin, Mstislav Rostropovich, Mischa Maisky, Mikhail Pletnev, Vladimir Spivakov, Yevgeny Svetlanov, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Valery Gergiev, Kent Nagano, Semyon Bychkov and others.

He has appeared at international music festivals including the BBC Proms in London, the Edinburgh Festival, the Salzburg Festival, the Summer Festival in Colmar, December Nights in Moscow, and festivals of classical and contemporary music in Lucerne, Zurich, Innsbruck, Amsterdam, Glasgow, Warsaw, Zagreb, Rome, Montreux, Gstaad and many other cities.

He has taken part in recordings for leading international labels such as Deutsche Grammophon, Virgin Classics, PentaTone Classics and others.
