Biography

A graduate of the 2nd Moscow Regional Prokofiev Music College in Pushkino (class of M. M. Moiseeva).

In 2004 she graduated with honours from the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music (class of Professor M. M. Apeksimova). After completing her studies she entered the assistant‑traineeship in the class of Professor V. A. Sudakov, Honoured Artist of Russia, Georgia, and Abkhazia (2004–2006).

She began her teaching and chorus‑master activities while still a student at the Gnesin Academy: from 2002 to 2006 she taught on the conducting‑choral department of the 2nd Prokofiev College and directed the choral class at the Alyabiev Children’s Music School in Moscow.

Since 2004 she has worked as a chorus master with the V. Sudakov State Concert and Theatre Chapel under the direction of A. Sudakov. The ensemble has taken part in many musical events both in Russia and abroad.

During her time with the Chapel she has helped prepare programmes such as:

  • «In the Labyrinths of World Opera» (Moscow International House of Music, 2008–2009 and 2009–2010 seasons);
  • Pushkin evenings at the A. S. Pushkin Memorial Museum on Prechistenka;
  • programmes for the «Moscow Autumn» International Festival of Contemporary Music;
  • participation in productions at the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich‑Danchenko Moscow Music Theatre (Prokofiev’s «War and Peace», Verdi’s «Aida», Mussorgsky’s «Khovanshchina»);
  • participation in the multimedia folk production «Trinity» in the Hall of Church Councils of the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow.

The choir also performs in concerts organised by the Vladimir Spivakov International Charity Foundation, the Belcanto Charitable Foundation, and other organisations.

Since 2006 N. Yu. Stepanova has taught in the Choral Conducting Department of the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music.
