Biography

Education: Chișinău Ştefan Neaga Music and Choreography College (1987–1991); Gnesin Russian Academy of Music (1991–1996); Gnesin Russian Academy of Music – assistant‑traineeship (1996–1998).

Teaching activity:

  • since 1996 – teacher in the Orchestral Conducting Department of the Folk Instruments Faculty at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music;
  • since 1996 – Artistic Director and conductor of the Gnesin Academy bayan orchestra «Ad libitum»;
  • since 2006 – Associate Professor at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music.

Concurrent positions:

  • since 2000 – member of the Moscow Musical Society;
  • 2000–2002 – director of the string chamber ensemble of the Moscow City Teachers’ House;
  • 2001–2003 – second conductor of the folk instrument orchestra of the A. G. Schnittke Moscow State Institute of Music;
  • since 2005 – conductor of the Russian folk orchestra at the Gnesin State Music College.

Qualification category – second.

Awards:

  • Gold Medal of the Vladimir Spivakov International Charitable Foundation (2006);
  • Certificate of the Patriarchal Centre for the Spiritual Development of Children and Youth at the Danilov Monastery of the Russian Orthodox Church for professionalism, high performance mastery, and a significant contribution to the spiritual and moral upbringing of children and young people (2007);
  • the «Ad libitum» orchestra – three‑time laureate of the Moscow student arts festival «Festos‑2000, ‑2003, ‑2004», holder of three Gold Cups and three prizes of the 21st «April Spring» International Arts Festival in Pyongyang (DPRK, 2003), and holder of the Silver Cup and a prize of the 25th «April Spring» International Arts Festival in Pyongyang (2007).

  • collection of works by Dmitri Shostakovich orchestrated by V. Shkurovsky for Russian folk orchestra in «From the Repertoire of the Gnesin Academy Concert Russian Orchestra», Issue 8 (2004);
  • P. I. Tchaikovsky’s «Russian Scherzo» orchestrated by V. Shkurovsky in the anthology «From the Repertoire of the Russian Folk Orchestra “Moscow”», Issue 3 (2006).

Masterclasses:

  • lectures on orchestration for Russian folk orchestra at the All‑Russian training seminar for conductors of Russian folk instrument orchestras held at the Russian House of Folk Art (2003–2007).

Recordings:

  • CD «Sister, You Remember, Don’t You?» with thirteen orchestral arrangements of wartime songs performed by the Gnesin Academy Concert Russian Orchestra under Boris Voron (2005);
  • recording of music for the film «Euphoria» for the STS television channel in Fyodor Bondarchuk’s programme «Cinema in Detail» (2006).
