Biography

In 1973 he graduated from the Izhevsk Music College (class of Honoured Teacher of Russia S. L. Kaldin).
In 1978 he graduated from the Gnesin State Musical and Pedagogical Institute (now the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music) in the trombone class of Honoured Artist of Russia, Professor K. M. Ladilov.

Since 1993 he has taught at the Department of Pop Music Art, and since 2000 at the Brass and Percussion Department of the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music.

He has repeatedly served as a member of the juries of all‑Russian and international competitions, as well as Chairman of State Examination Boards. He gives masterclasses at music institutions in Russia and abroad.

He served on the jury of the 12th International Children’s Competition‑Festival of Slavic Music «Harmony» (Belgorod, 19–22 May 2017).

He was Chairman of the State Examination Board at the A. N. Scriabin Music College (Moscow Region, Elektrostal, 10 June 2017).

He gave a masterclass at the A. N. Scriabin Music College (Moscow Region, Elektrostal, 10 June 2017).

Concert activities:

  • 1977–1982 – member of the Oleg Lundstrem Variety Orchestra;
  • 1982–1985 – member of the Symphony Orchestra of the USSR Ministry of Culture under G. N. Rozhdestvensky;
  • 1985–2010 – soloist (from 1991 principal trombonist) of the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of the USSR under Yevgeny Svetlanov;
  • since 2010 – member of the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the >Moscow State Philharmonic.

As a member of these orchestras he has frequently performed and recorded masterpieces of the world symphonic repertoire, including «Boléro» by Maurice Ravel, Symphony No. 3 by Gustav Mahler, the overture «The Bright Holiday» by Nikolai Rimsky‑Korsakov, the first performance and recording of Rodion Shchedrin’s «Musical Offering», among others.

He is the author of an article in the journal «DAV – Music» of the Vorontsov Wind Academy (dedicated to the 90th anniversary of K. M. Ladilov).
