Mikhail Andreyevich Semenov is a performer, accompanist, and educator. He studied at the Academic Music College of the Moscow P. I. Tchaikovsky State Conservatory under M. V. Prozorova, and subsequently at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music in the class of Professor S. E. Senkov, PhD in Art History.
During his studies, he was a multiple scholarship recipient from international music foundations, including the K. Orbelyan Foundation (2003, 2004) and the Yamaha Foundation (2007). He was also a recipient of the Russian Federation Government Scholarship (2007).
Mikhail Semenov is a laureate and diploma winner of numerous national and international competitions, including the 15th International Competition «Roma-2004» (3rd Prize, Rome, 2004), the First All-Russian Competition for University Piano Students «Path to Mastery» (2nd Prize, Moscow, 2006), and the Second World Delphic Games (3rd Prize, Saratov, 2008).
M. A. Semenov’s performing career is well-known both in Russia and abroad. His performance geography includes cities such as Moscow, Dubna, Tver, Smolensk, Bryansk, Saratov, Tambov, Makhachkala, Budapest, Rome, Cantù, and Aarhus.
M. A. Semenov performs both as a soloist and as an accompanist. His stage partners include soloist of the Moscow Regional Philharmonic Pavel Baransky, Honored Artist of Russia Yana Ivanilova, and Honored Artist of Russia Elena Bazhenova.
In collaboration with Alexandra Ogareva, director of the «Credo» Theater of Music and Drama, he has worked on musical productions of «The Tale of the Priest and of His Workman Balda», «The Gold of Scheherazade’s Tales», and «The Grammar of Love».
He has performed with various orchestras in Italy (the Rome and Lazio Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Nicola Samale; the Cantù City Orchestra, conducted by Pierangelo Gelmini), the Saratov Symphony Orchestra, the Gnesin Academy Orchestra under the baton of Honored Artist of the Kazakh SSR T. Mynbaev, the Chamber Orchestra of the Moscow P. I. Tchaikovsky State Conservatory under the baton of People’s Artist of Russia Felix Korobov, the Central Military Band of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation under the baton of Honored Artist of Russia Sergey Durygin, and has collaborated with the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Moscow Philharmonic under the baton of People’s Artist of the USSR Yuri Simonov.
In 2009, M. A. Semenov began his teaching career at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music as an assistant in Professor S. E. Senkov’s piano class. Since 2016, he has been leading his own class at the Department of Special Piano.
M. A. Semenov’s students are prize-winners of numerous competitions, including:
- «Romanticism: Origins and Horizons» International Competition (Moscow);
- «Music. Talent. Discovery» All-Russian Competition for Performing Musicians (Moscow);
- All-Russian Competition of Piano Concertos with Orchestra (Dubna);
- National Competition for Young Soloists (Quito, Ecuador).
M. A. Semenov serves as a jury member for many festivals and competitions, including:
- Chairman of the Moscow Regional Open Competition for Piano Graduates;
- Jury member of the «Public Philharmonic — Teachers Perform» Moscow Regional Open Festival-Competition;
- Jury member of the «Merzlyakovka Invites Friends» Open All-Russian Competition for Young Pianists;
- Jury member of the All-Russian Competition of Piano Concertos with Orchestra (Dubna);
- In 2024, he served as the Chairman of the Jury for the All-Russian Children’s Music Festival (Syktyvkar), dedicated to the 150th anniversary of E. F. Gnesina’s birth.
M. A. Semenov conducts masterclasses and professional development courses, and also teaches a course on piano pedagogy at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music.
