Biography

A performer, teacher and musical public figure.

He was born in Kazan in 1979. In 1994 he graduated from Children’s Art School No. 6 in Yoshkar‑Ola (class of Honoured Cultural Worker of the Mari El Republic Natalya Yuryevna Mitenkina). In 1998 he graduated from the Mari Republic Music College named after I. S. Palantai (class of Honoured Cultural Worker of the Mari El Republic Yevgeny Matveyevich Anichkin). In 2003 he graduated from the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music, and in 2005 completed an assistant traineeship there (class of People’s Artist of Russia, Professor Vyacheslav Anatolyevich Semyonov).

From 2001 to 2004 he was a soloist of the All‑Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company Academic Orchestra of Russian Folk Instruments under N. Nekrasov.

Laureate of international competitions:

  • «World Cup» (Pontarlier, France, 2004, First Prize and the title «World Champion»; Glasgow, United Kingdom, 2008, First Prize in duo with Yuliya Amerikova, accordion);
  • «Cup of the North» (Cherepovets, Russia, 2000, First Prize);
  • International Competition in Klingenthal (Germany, 2002, Second Prize; 2004, First Prize);
  • International Competition in Castelfidardo (Italy, 2004, First Prize);
  • Moscow International Competition (2000, Third Prize; 2005, Second Prize);
  • International Arrasate Hiria Competition (Spain, 2002, Second Prize).

Since 2005 he has taught at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music, since 2012 as Senior Lecturer and since 2020 as Associate Professor.

Students of A. V. Selivanov’s class are laureates of all‑Russian and international competitions, including the World Cup.

A. V. Selivanov has performed in many Russian cities and in European countries (Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Finland, Norway, Croatia, Serbia, Poland, France, Armenia and others) and in Asia (Kazakhstan, Turkey, Lebanon, China, Japan). He has taken part in international festivals such as «Bayan and Bayanists», «Sata Hame Soi» (Finland), «Spoleto Festival» (Italy), «Shanghai Spring Festival» and others, and has appeared with orchestras under P. Kogan, V. Yurovsky and G. Rozhdestvensky.

He has given seminars and masterclasses in Russia, Italy, Poland, Croatia and China. He has taken part in all‑Russian charitable programmes led by Yuri Bashmet, «New Names», Yuri Rozum and «New Itinerants».

He has organised competitions including «Champion of Russia – Champion of the World» (2008–2010), the Roland V‑Accordion Festival Russia, «Bayan. Accordion. Harmonica» and the Russian Accordion and Bayan Championship. He serves on the juries of international and all‑Russian competitions.

He is Chairman of the Music Committee of the Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA).
