Pianist, People’s Artist of Russia, prizewinner of international competitions, soloist of the Moscow State Philharmonic, academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, professor of the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music.
He was born in Moscow into a family of musicians.
His first teacher was A. D. Artobolevskaya. It was she who was able to instill in the young pianist a sincere love for music. No less important a role in the formation of Yu. Rozum as a musician was played by the professors of the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory E. V. Malinin and L. N. Naumov. They helped Yu. Rozum develop his talent and become a true master of musical art. Yuri Rozum graduated from the Conservatory with honors.
Prizewinner of international competitions: the Queen Sofia Competition in Madrid (1979), the Maria Canals Competition in Barcelona (1980), and the Montreal Competition (1984). He has toured in the countries of Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the USA.
At present, Yuri Rozum performs in the most prestigious halls of Moscow, such as the Great Hall of the Conservatory, the Moscow International House of Music, and the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, as well as in the finest halls of America, Europe, Australia, and Southeast Asia.
On average, he gives 100 concerts and 50 master classes a year. He has recorded about 20 compact discs.
Rozum’s repertoire includes more than 30 solo programs consisting of works by outstanding classical and Romantic composers, 20 concertos for piano and orchestra, as well as numerous chamber ensembles.
In 2004, the Zagoryansky School of Arts was named after People’s Artist of Russia Yuri Alexandrovich Rozum. In 2018, the Children’s School of Arts in the town of Satka was likewise named after him. In 2013, a music school was opened in the Republic of Malta on the basis of the Russian boarding school, which was given the name of Yuri Rozum.
Since 2005, the Yuri Rozum International Charitable Foundation has been operating, helping musically gifted children. He is the founder of the International Arts Festival «Zvezdny» («Starry») and the All-Russian music festivals «Zvezdny Desant» («Starry Landing»), «Yuri Rozum’s Musical Workshop,» and «Where Art Is Born.»
Since 2011, Yuri Rozum has been an honorary professor of the Moscow State University of Culture and Arts and an honorary academician of the International Academy of Arts.
