Biography

In 1978 he graduated from the Gnesin State Musical and Pedagogical Institute (now the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music), and in 1982 completed postgraduate studies.

Teaching activities:

  • Music College named after M. M. Ippolitov‑Ivanov;
  • Gnesin State Musical and Pedagogical Institute named after M. M. Ippolitov‑Ivanov (since 1973);
  • Gnesin State Musical and Pedagogical Institute – Gnesin Russian Academy of Music (since 1980).

Among his students are laureates of all‑Russian and international competitions and soloists of various Russian orchestras, including Honoured Artist of Russia O. Mukhin, K. Soldatov, A. Vetukh, V. Sharapov, P. Tuzov, K. Tuzov and others.

He gives masterclasses and open lessons in various cities in Russia and abroad (Royal Academy of Music in London, 1997, 1999).

He has served on the juries of numerous competitions for wind instrumentalists.

Concert activities:

  • 1972–1975 – Symphony Orchestra of Radio and Television (conductor Maxim Shostakovich);
  • 1975–1980 – soloist and principal of the brass section of the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich‑Danchenko Moscow Academic Music Theatre Orchestra;
  • 1980–1991 – Symphony Orchestra of the USSR Ministry of Culture under G. Rozhdestvensky;
  • 1991–2000 – Russian National Symphony Orchestra under Mikhail Pletnev;
  • 2000–2007 – Symphony Orchestra «Russian Philharmonia».

Over the course of his performing career he has made numerous recordings both with orchestras and as a member of ensembles and as a soloist, including concertos by G. F. Telemann and T. G. Albinoni with the Radio and Television Chamber Orchestra (conductor V. Kalashnikov), and the seven‑CD project of Russian classical music recorded by the Russian National Orchestra for Deutsche Grammophon (1994–2000), among others.

Author of scholarly and methodological works and teaching programmes:
