Vladimir N. Permiakov

Biography

In 1985 he graduated from the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music in the class of People’s Artist of Russia, Professor A. A. Fedotov, and in 1987 he completed an assistant traineeship there.

He is a laureate of First Prize at the First All‑Russian Woodwind Performance Competition (Leningrad). In 1983 he was awarded Second Prize at the All‑Union Woodwind Performance Competition (Khmelnytsky). Since 1991 he has been a soloist of the Tchaikovsky State Academic Grand Symphony Orchestra under V. I. Fedoseev. In 2000 he received the title «Honoured Artist of Russia», and in 2005 the title «People’s Artist of Russia».

V. Permyakov gave the first performance of Mieczysław Weinberg’s Chamber Symphony No. 4 for Clarinet and String Orchestra.

He has taught at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music since 2003, first as a Senior Lecturer and then as an Associate Professor in the Woodwind Department; since 2020 he has been a Professor of that department.

Among the students of V. N. Permyakov are laureates of all‑Russian and international competitions, and many of his graduates have successfully passed auditions and now perform with leading Moscow ensembles, including:

  • the Tchaikovsky State Academic Grand Symphony Orchestra;
  • the Russian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra;
  • the Symphony Orchestra of the B. A. Pokrovsky Chamber Music Theatre.

V. N. Permyakov has served on the juries of numerous music competitions, including:

  • the International Television Competition for Young Musicians «The Nutcracker» (woodwind and percussion section);
  • «Pedagogical Assembly. Ensemble Performance»;
  • the Moscow Open Competition for Young Clarinetists and Woodwind Ensembles.

He has given clarinet masterclasses throughout the Russian Federation (Chelyabinsk, Baku, Saransk) and abroad (Tokyo, Japan; Zurich, Switzerland; São Paulo, Brazil). He has taken part in chamber projects with A. Knyazev and A. Lyubimov, and has appeared as a soloist with the Tchaikovsky Grand Symphony Orchestra in countries both near and far abroad (Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, Mexico), with other Russian orchestras and with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra.

V. N. Permyakov has given the premieres of a number of works, including:

  • the first performance of M. Weinberg’s Chamber Symphony No. 4 for String Orchestra and Clarinet;
  • A. Eshpai’s Concerto for Clarinet and String Orchestra with Harp and Timpani, a work dedicated by the composer to V. N. Permyakov.
