Biography

Teacher, musicologist.

In 1974 she graduated from the Gnesin State Music and Pedagogical Institute (now the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music; research supervisor F. G. Arzamanov), and then completed postgraduate studies at the Gnesin State Music and Pedagogical Institute (research supervisor I. Ya. Ryzhkin). The topic of her dissertation was «On the Methodology of Research into the National Character of Music» (not defended).

Her international experience includes a ten‑month placement in 1985–1986 devoted to the study of contemporary European music in Paris (the Sorbonne and the Paris National Conservatory).

V. M. Kelle is an Associate Professor at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music. She teaches specialised courses on the history of Russian music of the twentieth century for performance students, sound engineers, and students of the Faculty of History and Theory; courses on contemporary music (for composition and vocal students and for Master’s students in string performance); music criticism (for musicologists and journalists, both undergraduate and Master’s); and lecture‑recital practice (for students and postgraduates), supervises graduation projects, and gives lectures in the professional‑development faculty.

In parallel, at various times she has been a lecturer at Moscow State University (Faculty of Journalism), Senior Research Fellow at the Elena F. Gnesina Memorial Museum‑Apartment, and consultant to the Russian Authors’ Society. She is founder and director of a non‑profit organisation, the Boris Tchaikovsky Creative Legacy Preservation Foundation.

She is a member of the Union of Composers of the Russian Federation, of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation «Organ in the Marina Tsvetaeva House‑Museum», and of the Creative Council of the National Foundation for the Support of Rights‑Holders, as well as a member and expert of the All‑Russian Society «Znanie».

Her scholarly interests include twentieth‑century music, performance, criticism, and journalism.

V. M. Kelle carries out extensive outreach activity in Moscow and other cities of Russia, appearing on radio and television, on the internet and in social networks with public lectures. She is producer of festivals (such as «Homo ludens») and competitions (such as «What the Twentieth Century Has Left Us»), and of concert series including «What Young Composers Are Writing», «Linking Generations: Gnesin‑Trained Composers», and anniversary concerts in Moscow concert halls.

V. M. Kelle provides organisational and methodological support to children’s music schools and schools of the arts in Moscow and the region, and as a jury member takes part in All‑Russian, regional, and Moscow‑level competitions and festivals in musicology and composition.

She is the author of more than 250 publications, including edited collections, articles, textbook chapters, and contributions in the mass media and digital media.
