In 1984 she graduated from the Faculty of History, Theory, and Composition of the Gnesin State Music and Pedagogical Institute (now the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music). In 1987 she completed postgraduate studies (in the class of Doctor of Art Studies, Professor N. S. Gulyanitskaya).
Her Candidate of Art Studies dissertation, «The Principle of Prose in Soviet Vocal Music of the 1960s–1980s», was defended in 1989; her Doctoral dissertation, «Musicology: The Style of a Scholarly Work», in 2005.
After completing her postgraduate studies in 1987 she joined the Department of Harmony and Solfeggio (now the Department of Music Theory). T. I. Naumenko’s teaching experience covers harmony and solfeggio on all faculties of the Academy, as well as supervision of graduation theses and Candidate dissertations. Since 2004 she has taught a special author’s course for postgraduates, «The Scholarly Text».
Her students include university and college teachers of music, music editors, and specialists in cultural management. Under her supervision ten Candidate dissertations have been defended.
She is the author of over two hundred publications, including three monographs – «Musicology: The Style of a Scholarly Work (Towards a Statement of the Problem)» (2005), «Textology of Music Scholarship» (2013), and «Textological Aspects of Musicology in Russia and the Former Soviet Union» (2017) – articles in Russian and international scholarly journals, and five school textbooks in music for grades five to nine, which have been adopted in general‑education institutions across all regions of Russia.
T. I. Naumenko has organised a number of all‑Russian and international scholarly conferences held regularly at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music, including:
- «Musicology at the Beginning of the Century: Past and Present» (Russian Humanities Research Foundation grants, 2002 and 2007).
- «Musicology in the Twenty‑First Century: Paths and Quest» (Russian Humanities Research Foundation grant, 2014).
- «Scholarly Schools in Musicology of the Twenty‑First Century» (2020).
- «Research of Young Musicologists».
She is executive editor of twenty collections of scholarly articles and conference proceedings. She is a member of the Moscow Union of Composers and serves on dissertation councils at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music and the Belarusian State Academy of Music.
