She was born in Volgograd.
She graduated from the Music College affiliated with the Volgograd Institute of Arts named after P. A. Serebryakov (Department of Music Theory).
In 2010 she graduated with honours from the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music, where she studied with I. P. Susidko (major subject, analysis of musical works), L. L. Gerver (polyphony, analysis of literary texts), L. S. Dyachkova and N. S. Gulyanitskaya (harmony), and M. G. Raku, N. V. Zabolotnaya, and Yu. V. Vasil’yev (music history).
In 2013 she completed postgraduate studies at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music and defended her Candidate of Art Studies dissertation on «Mozart’s Concert Arias in the Context of Vocal Art of the Second Half of the Eighteenth Century» (scientific supervisor: Doctor of Art Studies, Professor I. P. Susidko).
She began teaching in 2004 at the Voskresenie Children’s School of Arts (Volgograd).
In 2009–2013 she worked as an editor at the Moscow International House of Music.
Since 2013 she has taught the following subjects at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music:
- Musical form and analysis of musical works.
- Polyphony.
- History of musical theatre.
- Contemporary opera and ballet theatre.
- Analysis of opera and ballet productions.
- Genres and forms of Baroque music.
- Supervision of bachelor’s and master’s theses.
D. A. Nagina is the author of the monograph «Mozart’s Concert Arias and the Vocal Art of His Time» (2015), the teaching aids «Opera and Concert Aria in the Works of Mozart» (2017) and «Simple Forms in Vocal Music of the Classical and Romantic Periods: A Study Guide on Musical Form for Teachers and Students of Secondary and Higher Education Institutions» (2019), as well as over twenty scholarly articles on vocal and instrumental concert genres of the Classical era and on the theory of musical form.
D. A. Nagina gives masterclasses and public lectures as part of the «University Saturdays» project. She contributes to the organisation of several regular scholarly projects at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music, including the international scholarly conference «The Technique of Musical Composition» and the international online conference «Musicology in a Unified Cultural Space» (http://gnesinstudy.ru/).
Since 2017 she has served as executive editor of the online scholarly journal of the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music «Sovremennyye problemy muzykoznaniya» («Contemporary Musicology Issues») (http://gnesinsjournal.ru/).
She regularly presents papers at international and all‑Russian scholarly conferences at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music, the Moscow Tchaikovsky State Conservatoire, the Ippolitov‑Ivanov State Music and Pedagogical Institute, and the Volgograd Conservatory named after P. A. Serebryakov.
Her scholarly interests include the history of opera and ballet, music theatre on the contemporary stage, the history and theory of vocal art, and musical form and analysis of musical works.
In 2021 she received the badge of honour «Molodoy uchenyy» («Young Scholar») from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
