Dmitry Murin is a bright representative of a new generation of musicians — a guitarist, vocalist, and conductor, winner and laureate of international guitar competitions (Italy, Israel, Russia, Kazakhstan).
Associate Professor at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music and Associate Professor at the Moscow Pedagogical State University.
The musician’s repertoire, consisting of several concert programs, includes works of different styles and eras written for classical guitar, arrangements, as well as concertos for guitar and orchestra. His vocal repertoire features arias from operas, art songs, folk, and popular music.
Dmitry Murin graduated with honours from the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music in 2008, being the last student of the outstanding Soviet and Russian guitarist, Honoured Artist of Russia, Professor Alexander Frauchi (1954–2008).
Alongside guitar performance, at the Academy Dmitry studied conducting in the class of Professor Vyacheslav Chistyakov, and then completed postgraduate studies under Professor Nikolay Komolyatov.
Dmitry also took lessons and participated in masterclasses with many world‑renowned guitarists, including Zoran Dukić (Croatia), Aniello Desiderio (Italy), Roberto Aussel (France), Hubert Käppel (Germany), Pavel Steidl (Czech Republic), and Odair Assad (Brazil).
He studied vocal art under Honoured Artist of Russia Svetlana Yurasova (1960–2019) and Ayk Grigoryan, and took part in masterclasses with Baddag Verona James (Wales) and Michael Paul (USA).
The musician leads an active concert life and has performed in various countries, including the USA, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Malta, Lithuania, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, and Belarus.
He performs on the stages of the best concert halls of Moscow and Saint Petersburg, such as:
- the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall;
- the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory;
- the Moscow International House of Music;
- the Zaryadye Concert Hall.
He actively tours other cities across Russia.
Dmitry Murin regularly collaborates with many renowned composers, performers, ensembles, and orchestras, and has shared the stage with such distinguished artists as Leo Brouwer (composer and conductor), Aniello Desiderio (guitar), Fabio Mastrangelo (conductor), Pavel Kogan (conductor), Sergey Tararin (conductor), Justina Gringytė (mezzo‑soprano), Svetlana Kasyan (soprano), Yana Ivanilova (soprano), Mikhail Simonyan (violin), Sergey Poltavsky (viola), Igor Fedorov (clarinet), and many others.
He is a member of the Frauchi Guitar Quartet.
From 2009 to 2015 Dmitry Murin served as Director, and from 2015 to 2021 as Artistic Director of Russia’s largest international competition and festival for guitarists — the Alexander Frauchi International Guitar Competition and Festival.
Dmitry is regularly invited to various festivals and competitions as a performer, jury member, and masterclass teacher, as well as a guest artist in opera productions. He collaborates with the Yuri Bashmet Educational Centre, the Artistic and Enlightenment Programme «New Wanderers», the New Names Foundation, and the Yuri Rozum Foundation. He gives masterclasses and participates in academies held in various Russian cities within educational projects.
