He is a Professor at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music and the Moscow State Institute of Music named after A. G. Schnittke. In 1970 he graduated from the Gnesin State Musical and Pedagogical Institute (now the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music). From 1970 to 1999 he was a soloist of the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Moscow Philharmonic. He has worked with outstanding conductors and soloists, including K. Kondrashin, E. Svetlanov, G. Rozhdestvensky, B. Khaikin, K. Mazur, L. Maazel, Z. Mehta, D. Kitaenko, M. Jansons, Y. Temirkanov, V. Gergiev, D. Oistrakh, L. Kogan, S. Richter, I. Stern, Y. Menuhin and others.
He has appeared as a solo and chamber musician at festivals such as «Russian Winter», «December Nights», the Salzburg Festival, the Edinburgh Festival and others, and has collaborated with the Borodin Quartet, the Prokofiev Quartet, the Moscow Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra and the State Chamber Orchestra of Russia.
He has been awarded the badge of honour «For Excellent Work» by the Ministry of Culture of the USSR, as well as numerous honorary certificates. In 1984 he received the title «Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation», and in 1995 the title «People’s Artist of Russia». From 1999 to 2018 he was a soloist of the Russian National Orchestra.
He has taken part in recordings for major labels such as Deutsche Grammophon, Pentatone and Delos. A recording of music by Sergei Prokofiev made by the Russian National Orchestra received a prestigious international Grammy Award.
Teaching activity: from 1971 to 1978 he taught clarinet at the Gnesin Moscow Special School of Music. In 1996 N. V. Mozgovenko was awarded the title of Associate Professor, and in 2007 the title of Professor in clarinet.
Many of his students have become laureates of all‑Union, all‑Russian and international competitions and festivals and now perform in leading Russian orchestras, including the Russian National Orchestra, the Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra, the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Moscow Philharmonic, the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich‑Danchenko Music Theatre Orchestra and others.
N. V. Mozgovenko regularly gives masterclasses in cities across Russia and abroad and serves as a member of the juries of various competitions.
