In 1972 he graduated from the Vocal Faculty of the N. A. Rimsky‑Korsakov Leningrad State Conservatory.
From 1969 to 1971 he was a soloist with Lenconcert.
From 1971 to 1996 he was a soloist with the opera company of the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, performing leading lyric‑baritone roles, including Onegin (Tchaikovsky «Eugene Onegin»), Yeletsky (Tchaikovsky «The Queen of Spades»), Andrei Bolkonsky (Prokofiev «War and Peace»), Robert (Tchaikovsky «Iolanta»), Mizgir (Rimsky‑Korsakov «The Snow Maiden»), Figaro (Mozart «Le nozze di Figaro»), Germont (Verdi «La Traviata»), Di Luna (Verdi «Il trovatore»), Guglielmo (Puccini «Le Villi»), and others.
He has toured in many countries around the world, including the USA, the United Kingdom, Japan, France, Italy, and others. He has taught voice in Mexico (2002) and at the Higher Institute of Music in Damascus, Syria (1997–2008). He is currently a soloist with the Moscow Regional Production Centre.
