She graduated from the Penza Music College (Department of Music Theory, in the composition class of E. V. Gusev). In 2001 she graduated with honours from the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music, specialising in composition and orchestration in the class of Professor G. V. Chernov, and in 2003 she completed an assistant traineeship (class of G. V. Chernov).
Since 2006 she has been a lecturer in the Department of Analytical Musicology. She teaches courses in polyphony and musical form, including for students of the Continuing Professional Education Centre.
Her other professional activities include supervising students’ graduation theses, assisting in the preparation of papers for student scholarly conferences, including for international students (since 2006 E. V. Makartseva has been chief specialist in the Department for Visa and Migration Support of International Students and Continuing Education).
Since 2011 she has been a regular reviewer of collections of articles based on all‑Russian and international conferences held in Penza.
She is a member of the organising committees of various conferences held at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music and serves as technical secretary of the International Student Research Competition in Musical Art.
E. V. Makartseva gives masterclasses and public lectures as part of the «University Saturdays» project.
Her research interests include the history and theory of polyphony, musical form and analysis of musical works, and music for orchestras of Russian folk instruments.
Since 2013 she has been a member of the Penza branch of the Union of Composers of Russia. She performs her own works at various concert venues in Penza and participates in press conferences devoted to the presentation of collections of works by Penza composers.
She is currently a postgraduate student at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music in the specialisation 13.00.02 «Theory and Methodology of Teaching and Upbringing» (scientific supervisor: Professor I. P. Susidko). She is working on a Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences dissertation entitled «Music for Orchestras of Russian Folk Instruments by Composers of the Gnesin School: Genres, Techniques, Style».
