Biography

Professor in the Department of Russian Folk Instruments at the M. I. Glinka Novosibirsk State Conservatory, Associate Professor in the Department of Guitar, Domra, and Balalaika at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music, laureate of all‑Russian and international competitions.

She was born in 1983 in the city of Komsomolsk‑on‑Amur, Khabarovsk Territory. At the age of seven she entered the Children’s Music School to study domra with G. I. Vasilenko.

After finishing school, she continued her professional path in Novosibirsk. In 1998 she entered the A. F. Murov Novosibirsk Music College (class of V. V. Vladimirov); in 2002 she entered the M. I. Glinka Novosibirsk State Conservatory (class of Professor E. P. Yankovskaya). In 2008 she completed her Master’s degree, and in 2010 her postgraduate studies in Musical Art (Folk‑Orchestra Instruments, Domra) under the supervision of Professor Elena Prokofyevna Yankovskaya.

During her studies at the Conservatory she became laureate of international competitions, including:

  • «Nadezhda» («Hope») in Krasnoyarsk (2003 and 2007);
  • the International Folk Instrument Performance Competition in Vladivostok (Grand Prix, 2005).

While a postgraduate student she began teaching domra and ensemble in the Department of Folk Instruments at the M. I. Glinka Novosibirsk State Conservatory. In 2017 she was appointed Associate Professor, in 2021 she received the academic title of Associate Professor, and in May 2025 she was appointed Professor.

The students and graduates of A. V. Kirilenko are recipients of regional governor’s scholarships and laureates of international and all‑Russian competitions (Ekaterina Kryuchkova, Evgeniya Novakovich, Maria Kuchmasova, Polina Andreyeva, Irina Myasoedova, Ekaterina Nikitina, Olga Sadykova, Ulyana Voronova, Danila Nikolaenko, Viktoria Larina, Elizaveta Svistunova, Ivan Kovalchuk, and others), and are engaged in teaching, outreach, and concert activities.

During her years at the Conservatory, A. V. Kirilenko has trained domra specialists for the Russian Academic Orchestra of the Novosibirsk State Philharmonic. Among them are:

  • E. Kryuchkova (currently a lecturer at the Dmitri Hvorostovsky Prokopyevsk Regional College of Arts);
  • M. Kuchmasova (soprano domra);
  • D. Voronova (bass domra);
  • O. Sadykova (alto domra);
  • P. Andreyeva (soprano domra, lecturer at the A. F. Murov Novosibirsk Music College).

Another of A. V. Kirilenko’s graduates, D. Aliyeva, is a soloist and leader of the domra section of the Tattimbet Academic Folk Instrument Orchestra (Karaganda, Kazakhstan).

In 2017, at the invitation of institution directors, A. V. Kirilenko began teaching at the Novosibirsk Specialised Music School (since 2024 Head of the Department of Folk‑Orchestra Instruments) and at the A. F. Murov Novosibirsk Music College. Between 2017 and 2025 her pupils and students became recipients of various scholarships and laureates of prestigious competitions, going on to continue their studies at the Conservatory.

Until 2025 she combined teaching with performance, serving as a soloist and, from 2022, leader of the Russian Academic Orchestra of the Novosibirsk State Philharmonic. She has been a regular soloist in the orchestra’s concert programmes.

As a duo partner she has performed with leading musicians, including:

  • People’s Artist of Russia, Professor of the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music A. Tsygankov;
  • People’s Artist of the Russian Federation, Professor S. Lukin;
  • Head of the Department of Guitar, Domra, and Balalaika at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music, Professor A. Gorbachev;
  • Associate Professor of the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music, Candidate of Art History, and soloist of the N. P. Osipov National Academic Folk Orchestra of Russia E. Mochalova;
  • Professor S. Musafina;
  • all‑Russian and international competition laureates V. Afanasyev and K. Nosyrev.

She has performed under such conductors as V. Gusev, R. Dilmukhametov, Dušan Vilić, V. Shkurovsky, O. Ognev, D. Ukibay, I. Novikov, A. Kuznetsov, N. Komissarov, V. Moiseenko, N. Teryokhina, Yu. Milovanova, S. Simonov, and others.

For the first time in Novosibirsk, in 2019 A. V. Kirilenko, together with the Russian Academic Orchestra, premiered Yevgeny Podgaits’s Concerto «Seasons in Moscow» («Spring», «Winter»), conducted by People’s Artist of Russia, Professor V. Gusev. Some time later the concerto was performed in full, in four movements, with the Chamber Orchestra of the Novosibirsk State Philharmonic, conducted by Dušan Vilić.

In 2022 the premiere took place of Yevgeny Podgaits’s Double Concerto «Rendezvous». In February 2024, together with the Russian Academic Orchestra, she gave the premiere of the Concerto for Domra and Orchestra by the young Moscow composer A. Romodanov. In February 2025 she premiered conductor V. Yefimov’s «Spanish Concerto», Finale «Scherzo» with the Russian Academic Orchestra, conducted by the composer.

A. V. Kirilenko collaborates with the following ensembles:

  • the Russian Academic Orchestra of the Novosibirsk State Philharmonic;
  • the Chamber Orchestra of the Novosibirsk State Philharmonic;
  • the Russian Folk Instrument Orchestra of the Kemerovo Philharmonic;
  • the Barnaul Chamber Folk Instrument Orchestra;
  • the Tattimbet Academic Folk Instrument Orchestra (Karaganda, Kazakhstan);
  • the Concert Russian Folk Orchestra of the East Siberian State Institute of Culture (Ulan‑Ude);
  • the Folk Instrument Orchestra of the Irkutsk Philharmonic, and others.

In her scholarly and methodological work A. V. Kirilenko takes an active role. For many years she has collaborated with the Tomsk Regional Innovative Educational and Methodological Centre for Culture and Arts (TOIMTsKI). She is a regular expert for methodological competitions and open lessons, conducts professional development courses, and participates in conferences.

In 2018 TOIMTsKI published the music collection «Ensembles for Domra Duo (arrangements by A. V. Kirilenko)». In 2019 she took part in the All‑Russian research and practical conference «Topical Issues of Performance and Pedagogy in the Class of Plucked String Instruments» in Tomsk.

Scholarly article: «The Main Categories in Forming the Musical‑Performance Technique of a Domra Player in the Children’s Music School/Children’s School of Arts: Working on Sound Quality in the Process of Developing Technical Skills».

In 2020, together with her graduate Tatyana Shchepina, she published the teaching and methodological manual «Twelve Fantasias for Solo Flute by G. Telemann (arranged for Domra)» (M. I. Glinka Novosibirsk State Conservatory, Novosibirsk).

In 2025 her article «Practical Training at a Music University: Directions, Formats, and Types» was published in Tambov, and in the same year the teaching and methodological manual «V. Yefimov’s Spanish Concerto: Textural Exercises and Methodological Commentary on the Work» appeared (M. I. Glinka Novosibirsk State Conservatory, Novosibirsk).

Anastasia Vladimirovna Kirilenko is an active advocate of domra performance, giving masterclasses in Novosibirsk, Kemerovo, Prokopyevsk, Tomsk, Surgut, Irkutsk, Tyumen, Nizhneudinsk, Ulan‑Ude, Karaganda, and other cities. As a jury member she has worked in Irkutsk, Kemerovo, Prokopyevsk, Tomsk, Biysk, Yakutsk, Barnaul, and elsewhere.
