She graduated from the Gnesin State Music and Pedagogical Institute in Solo Folk Singing (class of Honoured Artist of Russia, Professor of the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music S. K. Ignatyeva).
She is a First‑Prize Laureate of the 4th Open International Competition for Performers on Multi‑String Fretless Instruments named after Vera Gorodovskaya (Moscow, 2010) and First‑Prize Laureate of the 3rd Folk‑Art Festival‑Competition «Khraniteli Naslediya Rossii» (Moscow, 2010).
In 1988 she was a vocal soloist with the Tomsk Regional Philharmonic.
In 1989 she became a vocal soloist of the Moscow Regional Philharmonic.
From 1990 to 1994 she was a vocal soloist with Mosconcert.
As a concert artist she has appeared on major stages throughout Russia (including Moscow, St Petersburg, Yaroslavl, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Yekaterinburg, Surgut, and other cities) and abroad (Mongolia, China, France, Switzerland, Malta, Japan, and elsewhere).
Alongside her concert career she has been active as a teacher, working at the Gnesin Music College since 1993 and at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music since 1998.
As a solo folk‑singing teacher at the Gnesin College and Academy she plays a key role in linking secondary and higher education, with many college graduates continuing their studies at the Academy. The artistic style of N. V. Khlynina and her students is marked by distinctive individuality, a strong grounding in the folk‑singing tradition, and a high standard of performance culture.
Her students and graduates sing in renowned Russian folk‑singing ensembles; among them are more than fifty laureates of leading folk‑song competitions, including Kseniya Khaytman, Diana Seryozhina, Serafima Vikman, Darya Shakhurina, Valeria Gellert, Alexandra Vlasova, and Valeria Chinkivskaya.
Students and graduates of her class are members of prominent folk‑singing ensembles, including:
N. V. Khlynina is a regular speaker at academic and practical conferences, has published articles in scholarly and methodological collections and journals, and has authored specialised curricula for music colleges and universities.
