Biography

Oleg Valentinovich Ivanov is a Russian scholar, expert, and analyst in the field of culture and the creative industries.

He graduated from the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Lomonosov Moscow State University with a degree in Mathematics (Department of Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics) and was awarded the degree of Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences in 1992.

At Moscow State University he served as Head of the Department of Social Informatics in the Faculty of Sociology (2001–2006) and as an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Global Processes (2012–2016).

He was First Deputy Chair of the Union of Cinematographers of Russia (2015–2016) and Director‑General of Roskultproekt, the Project Office of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation (2016–2018).

Since 2018 he has headed the Centre for Studies of the Cultural Environment in the Faculty of Philosophy of Moscow State University and has been Associate Professor in the Design Department of the School of Design, Institute for Social Sciences, RANEPA, teaching courses in Strategic Management and Project Management. He is co‑head of the Future of Theatre Laboratory at GITIS and an expert at the Laboratory for Strategic Solutions.

He has taught continuously since graduating from the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics, offering courses in mathematics and applied statistics in the Faculties of Psychology, Sociology, World Politics, and Global Processes, as well as MBA courses in the Faculty of Further Education at Moscow State University.

He has developed original courses in advanced mathematics, statistics, and quantitative research methods for students in the humanities.

In 2008 and 2009 he taught the course Economics of Culture in the Producing Faculty of VGIK (S. A. Gerasimov All‑Russian State Institute of Cinematography).

Since 2015 he has taught at the Nikita Mikhalkov Academy of Cinematographic and Theatrical Arts. His research interests include strategic analysis and forecasting, change management, project management, applied statistics, statistics of culture and the creative industries, research methods in the social sciences, global country indices, and the theory of creative and innovative spaces.

He is the author of more than forty scholarly and teaching‑methodological publications.

He serves as an expert to state bodies on issues of cultural policy and the development of the Russian film industry.

Since 2012 he has been a member of the Expert Council of the Fund for Social and Economic Support of Domestic Cinematography.

Since 2014 he has been a member of the Expert Council on Art‑House and Experimental Cinema of the Ministry of Culture of Russia. In 2014 he was part of the editorial group that prepared the Foundations of State Cultural Policy and the Report on State Cultural Policy for the joint session of the State Council and the Presidential Council for Culture and Art held on 24 December 2014.

In 2018 he was one of the initiators of the National Cultural Initiative, which was publicly presented at Parliamentary Hearings in the Federation Council of the Russian Federation in April 2018.

From March 2020 to 2023 he served as Acting Head of the Department of Producing for the Performing Arts at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music.

Since May 2023 he has been Head of the Department of Producing for the Performing Arts at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music.
