Biography

Andrey Grigoryev was born in 1963 in Irkutsk. After finishing school he moved to Yekaterinburg, where in 1987 he graduated from the Pyotr Tchaikovsky Music College.

In 1992 he received his diploma from the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music, studying in the class of Natalia Shpiller.

Until 1995 Grigoryev was a soloist of the Yekaterinburg State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre. He then spent a year performing with Moscow’s Novaya Opera Theatre under Evgeny Kolobov.

In 1996 Andrey Innokentyevich Grigoryev joined the opera company of the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia.

Awards:

  • 1992 – Third Prize at the International Competition for Young Opera Singers in Barcelona;
  • 1993 – Second Prize at the Luisa Todi International Competition in Lisbon;
  • 1994 – Third Prize at the Miriam Helin International Singing Competition in Helsinki;
  • 1994 – Third Prize at «Voix Nouvelles de Paris» in Perpignan, France;
  • 1995 – Third Prize at the International Competition for Young Opera Singers in Marseille;
  • 1997 – Laureate of Irina Arkhipova’s television competition «Bolshoi Prize of Moscow»;
  • 1998 – Third Prize at the Stanislaw Moniuszko International Vocal Competition in Warsaw;
  • 2005 – awarded the title «Honoured Artist of Russia».
