In 1971 T. Z. Dzhandarov was appointed conductor and artistic director of the newly formed Concert Orchestra of the Dagestan Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting, which became an important training ground for many performers. As Artistic Director of the orchestra, he played a key role in popularising the music of Dagestani composers.

Over many years T. Z. Dzhandarov took part in performances of professional music at major festivals, including:

Under T. Z. Dzhandarov’s direction the orchestra appeared in subscription concerts of the Moscow Philharmonic and the Union of Composers of Russia, together with some of the country’s most renowned choral and symphonic ensembles:

T. Z. Dzhandarov is the author of a number of musical works, including songs to poems by Rasul Gamzatov («To My Sons», «Song of Makhachkala», «Lullaby»), orchestral pieces, arrangements and transcriptions, and music for television films («The Rivers That Never Were», «Our City by the Sea», «Makhachkala», 1976, commissioned by Central Television).

From 1974 to 1997 T. Z. Dzhandarov taught at the Dagestan State Pedagogical University, first as Associate Professor and Head of the Choral Conducting Department, later as Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Music.

He combined his teaching with an active performing career. For many years he collaborated with the Ostankino Academic Grand Concert Orchestra, taking part in celebrations on Poklonnaya Hill marking the 50th anniversary of Victory, and in many other performances in Moscow’s concert halls. He also worked successfully with the ensembles of Dagestan State Television and Radio, conducting the combined choir, the symphony orchestra of Gosteleradio, and the Republic’s Opera and Ballet Theatre.

T. Z. Dzhandarov compiled the choral anthology «The People Sing of Their Motherland» (1974), wrote numerous articles on music for the press and music‑education programmes for republican television, and produced a series of methodological works on choral disciplines, including a textbook on choral conducting based on Dagestani music, «The Choral Art of Dagestani Composers» (Vol. 1, 1993; Vol. 2, 1994).

Over a number of years T. Z. Dzhandarov has participated in international conferences in China, South Korea, France, and other countries, delivering papers on the preservation and development of Russia’s musical‑pedagogical traditions and on the influence of the Russian professional music‑education system on the training of musicians abroad.

He serves as an expert to the State Duma Committee on Education. From 2004 to 2011 T. Z. Dzhandarov was Vice‑Rector of the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music for International Relations and Work with Foreign Students.
