Sergei Yuryevich Durygin is an Honoured Artist of Russia, People’s Artist of the Republic of Dagestan, and Honoured Artist of the Republic of Tuva.
He was born in Omsk in 1970.
In 1989 he graduated from the V. Ya. Shebalin Omsk State Music College as a clarinet major.
In 1994 he completed his studies at the Military Conducting Faculty of the Moscow Tchaikovsky State Conservatory.
From 2004 to 2006 he undertook advanced training in the assistant‑traineeship programme of the Moscow Tchaikovsky State Conservatory in the Opera and Symphonic Conducting Department under People’s Artist of Russia, Professor Vladimir A. Ponkin.
From 1994 to 2002 he served as Chief Conductor of the Headquarters Band of the Transbaikal (Siberian) Military District in Chita.
From 2002 to 2010 he was Deputy Chief and, since 2010, has been Colonel and Chief Conductor of the Central Military Band of the Russian Ministry of Defence, which comprises two separate ensembles, wind and symphony; with this band he has toured extensively throughout Russia and abroad.
In 2018 he chaired the jury of the 10th International Competition of the Moscow Conservatory for Wind and Percussion Performers in Moscow.
In 2023 he served as Chair of the jury of the P. Gusev International Wind and Percussion Competition in Omsk.
