He was born in 1981 in Rostov‑on‑Don, where his first teachers were S. P. Annikov, Ye. L. Svetozarova and L. Ya. Reznik.
He graduated from the Gnesin Academy and its postgraduate programme in the class of Professor N. A. Komolyatov, and later continued his studies at the Accademia Chigiana in Italy with Oscar Ghiglia and at the Koblenz Guitar Academy in Germany with Aniello Desiderio.
He is a laureate of thirty‑six international competitions held in Russia, Italy, France, Greece, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Malaysia, Japan, Israel and the United States, winning First Prize at fifteen of them.
He has received the «Golden Guitar» award and the title «Young Hope of the Year» at the International Guitar Convention in Alessandria, Italy (2007). During his studies he was a scholarship holder of the Government of the Russian Federation, the Vladimir Spivakov International Charitable Foundation and the Russian Performing Art Foundation.
Artyom Dervoed became the first Russian guitarist to win the prestigious Michele Pittaluga Competition in Alessandria, Italy (2006) in its forty‑year history. Another of his most important awards was gained in Spain, the homeland of the guitar, at Her Royal Highness Princess Cristina’s Competition in Toledo (2009), where he was also the first Russian to take First Prize.
In addition to his solo recital work, Dervoed collaborates with musicians such as Aniello Desiderio (guitar, Italy), Aidar Gaynullin (bayan, accordina, bandoneon, Russia), Yuri Medyanik (bayan, violin, bandoneon, Russia), Ivan Pochekin (violin, Russia), Sergey Shamov (percussion, Russia) and Hayk Kazazyan (violin, Russia).

His repertoire ranges from Renaissance music to contemporary works and includes more than twenty guitar concertos. Alongside the core classical‑guitar repertoire, he devotes particular attention to other musical styles and genres, performing both on classical and electric guitar.
In May 2012 he appeared in duo with leading guitarist Aniello Desiderio (Italy), performing Mario Castelnuovo‑Tedesco’s Concerto for Two Guitars and Orchestra.
In the 2013/2014 season he gave the world premiere of Israeli composer Daniel Akiva’s guitar concerto, written for him and entitled «Fantasy for One Prince».
His concerts have taken place in some of the world’s finest halls, including:
- Carnegie Hall and Jordan Hall (USA);
- the Berlin and Cologne Philharmonies;
- Tonhalle Düsseldorf (Germany);
- Bunka Kaikan (Japan);
- the Grand Hall of the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory;
- the Tchaikovsky Hall and Svetlanov Hall of the Moscow International Performing Arts Centre;
- the Lysenko Column Hall (Ukraine) and others.
His performances have been broadcast on radio and television in many countries.
He began teaching in 2005 at the Moscow State University of Culture and Arts.
Since 2011 he has taught at the Gnesin Academy.
In 2007 his debut CD of Russian guitar music was released in Canada on the leading classical label Naxos.
In 2009 in Madrid he recorded a second album devoted to the music of Leo Brouwer, marking the seventieth anniversary of the distinguished Cuban composer.
