Biography

Performer (double bass), teacher.

He was born in Moscow. He received his musical education at the Gnesin Moscow Special School of Music (class of Professor L. V. Rakov) and at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music (class of Professor V. V. Khomenkov).

He began his professional career with the Moscow Symphony Orchestra (under V. Dudarova), where he worked for three years as a soloist and principal double bass, and then for 30 years as a soloist and first principal double bass of the Tchaikovsky Grand Symphony Orchestra (under V. Fedoseev).

At the same time he taught at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music, where he continues to serve as a Professor. Students of Professor A. A. Belsky work in leading orchestras in Moscow, other Russian cities and abroad and are laureates and diploma winners of international competitions.

In addition to his work with the orchestra and the Academy, he has been continuously engaged in solo and ensemble performance, appearing on the most prestigious concert stages in Moscow, in other cities of Russia and abroad.

He has taught at the Gnesin Music School and Music College since 2009. In addition to his principal subject (double bass), he teaches the course «Orchestral Performance Skills» and has written the syllabus for this course.

In 2010 he founded the «Moscow Double Bass Studio», which brings together Moscow double bass players to raise performance standards and promote the creation of new works for double bass, and which he continues to direct.

He is actively involved in musical and public life as an initiator and organiser of regional and international competitions and festivals.

  • Moscow, 1988; syllabus for the principal subject «Double Bass» for institutions of higher education, 2008.

He is a «Veteran of Labour» and has been awarded the medals «For Valiant Labour» and «In Commemoration of the 850th Anniversary of Moscow».
