Анчутина Наталья Владимировна

Biography

Performer and educator.

She was born in the settlement of Verkhne‑Dneprovsky, Dorogobuzh District, Smolensk Region, in 1981.

She received her initial musical education at the Children’s Music School in the town of Dorogobuzh (domra class of I. A. Stasevich). In 2000 she graduated from the Smolensk Music College (domra class of E. I. Igosheva), in 2005 from the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music (domra class of People’s Artist of Russia, Professor A. A. Tsygankov), and in 2007 she completed an assistant traineeship there (supervisor — Professor A. A. Tsygankov).

In 2021 she defended her dissertation «Formation of Cultural and Educational Competences of Performing Musicians on String Folk Instruments at University».

She is laureate of Second Prize at the 6th All‑Russian Folk Instrument Performance Competition (Tver, 2001) and laureate of First Prize at the 5th International Folk Instrument Performance Competition «Cup of the North» (Cherepovets, 2004).

She is actively engaged in concert work. As a domra player she vividly and widely promotes Russian performing culture abroad (in many cities of Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, France, and Spain).

Since 2007 she has performed in a duo with German pianist Lothar Freund. Over this period they have given 2 000 concerts in many countries of the world.

Natalia Anchutina’s concert performances have been broadcast on German television and radio on the channels «HR» and «SWR».

A unique achievement of the «Domrapiano» duo was a musical and educational project presented in 2017 at Carnegie Hall in New York, USA. For the first time in the history of the folk‑instrument performance genre, a solo domra recital took place on this renowned stage.

She has appeared as a soloist with orchestras of Russian folk instruments, including:

  • the N. P. Osipov National Academic Folk Orchestra of Russia (conductors Nikolay Kalinин, Viktor Kuzovlev);
  • the Municipal Russian Folk Instrument Orchestra «Struny Rusi» of Yaroslavl (conductor Evgeny Ageev);
  • the Russian Folk Instrument Orchestra of the Kostroma Philharmonic (conductor Vladimir Sorozhkin);
  • the Russian Folk Instrument Orchestra of the Smolensk Regional Philharmonic (conductors Nikolay Kalinин, Igor Gromov, Evgeny Lytkin, Igor Kazhdan);
  • the Russian Folk Instrument Orchestra «Rossiyane» of Tambov (conductor Yuri Khramov).

In December 2012 a series of her solo performances took place with the symphony orchestra of Frankfurt am Main «Johann‑Strauss‑Orchester» (Germany).

Natalia Anchutina’s solo concerts have been held with great success in many cities across Russia, including Moscow, Yaroslavl, Kostroma, Smolensk, Kursk, Astrakhan, Bryansk, Tambov, Tver, Belgorod, Saratov, Orel, Minsk, and Yakutsk.

Critics have repeatedly noted the exceptionally colourful and powerful concert sound of the instrument in her hands, her brilliant technique, and her artistic mastery of all styles. For this reason many composers entrust her with the premiere performances of their works and gratefully dedicate new pieces to Natalia Anchutina.

In 2007 she released the CD «Saitenmalerei» as a duo with German pianist Lothar Freund. In 2010 the second CD «Domrapiano» was issued, also with German pianist Lothar Freund. In 2012 the CD «Dreams of Love» by the «Domrapiano» duo with symphony orchestra was recorded in Germany. In 2018 the fourth CD «Domrapiano» was released.

Natalia Anchutina is one of the performers featured on Tatiana Sergeeva’s CDs «Evening at the Estate» and «Dreams of the Past» (Art‑Service label, 2008 and 2010), on soprano Vera Sokolova’s solo CD «Songs of Love» playing mandolin (Art‑Service, 2010), on Tatiana Sergeeva’s solo CD «Etude» playing domra (Art‑Service, 2013), on Tatiana Sergeeva’s solo CD «Tell Me» playing mandolin (Art‑Service, 2014), on Tatiana Sergeeva’s solo CD «At the Estate» playing domra (Art‑Service, 2005), and on bass Ivan Vikharev’s solo CDs «Lilac Branch» and «Bird‑Cherry’s Silver Hoarfrost» playing domra (Art‑Service, 2011).
