The year 2024 marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding pianist and teacher Elena Fabianovna Gnesina, one of the creators of a unique system of Russian musical education and founder of educational institutions bearing the Gnesin family name. On 20 June 2022 the President of the Russian Federation V. V. Putin signed a decree on the occasion of the birthday of Elena Fabianovna Gnesina. V. Putin signed Decree No. 388 ‘On celebrating the 150th anniversary of the birth of E. F. Gnesina’ - this document at the state level confirmed the scale of E. F. Gnesina's personality, as well as the significance of her enormous contribution to the development of culture and art in Russia.
One of the largest projects of the celebration will be the Creative Schools of the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music - more than 30 of them will take place in different cities of Russia. The aims of the project are to disseminate the cultural values and traditions of the Gnesin House, identify and support young talented musicians, develop their abilities and skills, and increase interest in musical art. Also in 2023, the Russian Government established personal student scholarships named after E. F. Gnesina, which will be awarded annually to 11 best students of music universities in Russia.
The series of festive events will include the reprinting of educational publications and sheet music of the Gnesin family, memorable materials about Elena Gnesina from the collections of the Museum-apartment of E. F. Gnesina. Gnesina, restoration and digitisation of audio and video recordings of lessons of outstanding teachers of Gnesina's educational institutions, preparation and publication of a monograph on Gnesina and the system of educational institutions created by her, as well as an All-Russian Children's Music Festival dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Elena Gnesina. In addition, in 2024, a unique Competition for the creation of a musical composition on the theme ‘EFG’ dedicated to the musician's anniversary will be held.
