100 events in honor of the 100th anniversary of Russian jazz

In 2022, Russian jazz celebrated its 100th anniversary. The history dates back to the first jazz concert conducted by Valentin Parnakh, which took place on 1 October 1922. Since then, jazz has become an integral part of Russian culture. Domestic jazz musicians have made a significant contribution to the development of jazz music in Russia and around the world. The uniqueness of this project is connected with the Russian jazz education, which was born in 1974 in the walls of the oldest educational institution in Moscow ‘Gnessin Music School’. Gnessin Music School. Later, in 1984, the Gnessin State Music and Pedagogical Institute opened a department of jazz education. Later, in 1984, the Gnessin State Music and Pedagogical Institute opened a department of ‘Musical Art of Variety’, which exists to this day, and which has been teaching outstanding Russian jazz musicians for more than 35 years. Thus, jazz education in Russia is currently best represented within the Gnesin musical tradition (school - college - university). The Gnessin Jazz School has produced and continues to produce more than one generation of highly professional jazz musicians. Such a significant contribution of Gnesinskaya to the foundation and development of the Russian jazz school gives us the opportunity to organise concerts, lectures, master classes and international competitions in the concert halls of the Gnesinsky School and Academy, with the participation of famous Russian and foreign jazz musicians, jazz orchestras and student groups.
