About of the Academy

The Gnesin Russian Academy of Music is a unique and dynamic organization that brings together all three levels of the Russian educational system – primary school, secondary professional education, undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

Being the leading music educational institution of Russia, the Academy offers nearly 100 programs involving practically all fields of music and performing arts.

The Academy offers professional training for instrumental performers, conductors, classical and folk singers, composers, sound engineers, producers, musicologists and other specialists, as well as doctorate programs.

Since its foundation in 1895, the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music implements the unique educational approach created by the Gnesin family, which has grown into a renowned set of traditions. The Academy strongly relies on these traditions and at the same time strives to be on the cutting edge of current trends in education.

Mission of the Academy

To preserve and enhance the traditions of Russian system of music education, aimed at development of cultural elite of society in accordance with modern domestic and international requirements to the quality of education.

Goals and objectives of the Academy

Gaining competitive advantages among Russian and foreign institutions of higher education, training professional music performers, musicians, choirmasters, conductors, leaders of musical groups and music teachers;
Aligning professional requirements to students and teaching staff with world quality standards;
Developing simultaneously educational, creative and scientific aspects of educational process involving teachers and students;
Considering the requirements of the labor market in educational programmes upgrades;
Enhancing students» abilities to represent diverse national musical traditions in Russia and abroad;
Revival, preservation, promotion of folk music traditions of the peoples of Russia and their stage impersonation;
Cultivating patriotic, spiritual and moral values of students;
Intensifying academic mobility among teachers and students of Academy;
Strengthening partnership ties with arts-related organizations, funds, employers and higher education institutions of Russia and foreign countries.
